Reminders: 10/19 – 10/23 – ITBS – parents will not be allowed in the building (for volunteering or to have lunch with your child) during this week because of standardized testing. PTA OPERATION HELPING HANDS (OHH) OPERATION KEEP WARM The month of October, please send in gently used coats, hats, scarves, mittens, & gloves to be placed in our OHH bins outside the media center. These warm winter items will be donated to North Fulton Community Charities. This is a great time to clean out your kids outgrown winter gear from past years and pass them on to children in need. http://nfcchelp.org/ Thank you for supporting this wonderful cause and for helping to teach our students valuable lessons of giving and helping others. Reading: This week we discussed the differences between fables, folktales, and myths. We also started our novel studies. Students were assigned a novel to read and add “Think Notes” while they read. These notes help him mark in the book where things are that are surprising, important, confusing, etc. The kids really seem to like their novels. Next week we will continue to look at fables, folktales, and myths as well as continuing our novel studies. Due to ITBS testing, we will not have a reading log due next week. Writing: We had our Author’s Celebration today and it was SO much fun! Our final copies took a little longer than planned so we will actually begin our informational writing unit next week. Math: Please remember that if I do not teach your child math, you will need to check your child’s math teacher’s blog for information and updates. Here is the schedule for the next quiz: 10/30 – 7s and 8s facts. – This quiz has been pushed back one week due to ITBS. Next week we will be reviewing all the properties of multiplication. Please have your child practicing their multiplication facts. You can do this through flash cards or by completing the IXL multiplication activities. Science: Next week we will have kids present their posters on air pollution, water pollution, and land pollution. We will also use the week to review all of the units we have studies so far this year. |
